I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 (NLT)
Doesn’t the middle part of that verse just make you jump up and down with excitement?? Well…. maybe not. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the day we gave our lives to Jesus, we never had another problem? But this verse clearly shows us, that we will indeed all face many trials and sorrows. No matter your age, your race, your financial status or your sex, you will face problems.
The last half of that verse is where it really gets good though. Many times we try to tackle these trials in our own strength, and generally we end up failing miserably. When we start co-operating with the victory Jesus already won, we will start accessing the confidence and peace we need to ride out the storms of life. We may not be able to always prevent the storm, but when we learn to run to the ‘storm shelter’ of God’s love and promises, we can walk through them with peace and a confidence that the world can’t explain.
Psalm 91 is an amazing chapter of the promises of God’s provision. I encourage you today to not retreat or quit in the time of trial or storm. But instead run into Him, and tap into His victory.
